Where Water Rests in Lake Milton Wells
Of the 1,951 logs near Lake Milton that record a resting water level, the middle half fall between 20 and 45 feet down. That is the level with the pump off. Once it runs, the water drops, and the pump has to hang below that pumping level with room to spare, so a submersible pump is set lower than the resting figure alone suggests.
The pump's work is the height from the pumping level to the house plus the pressure setting, so a well with water at 45 feet asks more of its pump than one at 20. When a pump fails or pressure drops, pump repair should include measuring where the water stands now, since a well's level can shift over the years.
Casing and Rigs for Lake Milton Ground
Casing runs from the surface into the top of the rock and is grouted, so where rock sits deep, as it does in one log in four here, there is a long run of pipe before the open hole begins. The rock mapped at the town center is the Allegheny and Pottsville Groups, Pennsylvanian shale, siltstone, limestone and sandstone.
Chatfield drills with air rotary and cable tool rigs. Air rotary cuts rock with a turning bit and lifts the cuttings out with compressed air; cable tool raises and drops a heavy bit, with the casing following it down through loose ground. Well drilling explains both, and the cost page sets out how depth and casing affect a quote.
