WATER TREATMENT · 15 MIN FROM OUR CORTLAND OFFICE
Warren’s water leaves the plant carrying chloramine, a disinfectant that lasts longer in the pipes than chlorine. A whole-home CityLux is the Chatfield system built to remove it, and a test at your tap shows what arrives.
Serving our communities since 1967
USGS sampled Trumbull County wells between 1997 and 2013. That shows what is common here, and your own water test sets the size of the system.

WHAT WE INSTALL IN WARREN
The Equipment Warren
Water Tends to Need.
Chatfield Water Systems is one line, with one system per problem. Your water test decides which ones you need and in what order; the county record shows which are likely.
- ON TOWN WATER
Chlorine removal
Warren’s public water is disinfected surface water, so the chlorine is still in it at the tap. The CityLux takes it out of the whole supply.

What Warren Water Says,
and What We Do About It.
Mosquito Reservoir water through one plant
The city system (EPA ID OH7803811) is run by local government and serves 49,130 people through 22,807 connections, with 5 storage tanks. It draws surface water from Mosquito Reservoir and treats it at one plant. EPA lists powdered activated carbon, permanganate and coagulation for removing inorganics. Rapid mixing, flocculation, settling and rapid sand filtration handle particles, and pH adjustment is there for corrosion control. Chlorine goes in after filtration, fluoride is added, and chloramines are listed for disinfection.
So the water is clarified and filtered, its pH is set to go easier on pipes, and it leaves with a disinfectant that holds up longer in the mains than chlorine does. The chlorine taste page covers what that residual can mean at the tap.
Taking chloramine out of Warren water
Chloramine is chlorine combined with ammonia, and that pairing is why it persists in the mains. It is also harder to strip out than plain chlorine. The CityLux is Chatfield’s whole-home system for it, built to remove chloramine as well as chlorine, so showers, laundry and the kitchen tap all get treated water.
A tap test comes first and confirms what reaches your house. If hardness shows up in the same test, the CityLux softens the water as well, set to that reading, so one unit covers both. EPA lists no softening step at the plant, so hardness is a reading for your own test.
Warren’s lead rounds, 2018 to 2025
EPA lists a measured value for every round on the city’s record: 0.0042 mg/L in 2018, 0.0026 in 2021, 0.0062 in 2022, 0.0083 in 2023, 0.0061 in 2024 and 0.0037 in 2025. Every one is under the 0.015 mg/L action level, and the highest was the 2023 round.
These are 90th-percentile figures across homes sampled in the system. Your own tap depends on your own service line and fixtures, so a home test is the way to know it. If lead shows up, an Atlas Filtri Oasis Sanic reverse osmosis unit at the kitchen sink is the usual answer. Water testing has the details of the test and consultation.

A LITTLE CLARITY
Warren Questions.
Straight Answers.
What are private wells like around Warren?
ODNR logs within 5 miles show a median well 95 feet deep, half between 74 and 125 feet, reaching rock at a median 25 feet. Water stands a median 26 feet down, and the median yield is 15 gallons a minute. The mapped bedrock is Maxville Limestone with the Rushville, Logan and Cuyahoga Formations. Each well still gets its own test.
Is Warren’s water treated for hardness?
Not on EPA’s list. The plant adjusts pH for corrosion control, but softening isn’t among the listed steps, and the record behind this page gives no hardness figure for the reservoir water. A test at your tap measures it in grains per gallon, and a LuxSoft is sized to that reading only if it calls for one.
Does the plant’s pH adjustment replace a home lead test?
No. pH adjustment is the plant’s corrosion control for the whole system, and the lead rounds describe the 90th percentile of sampled homes. Neither measures your faucet, which depends on your own service line and fixtures. A test through a certified lab gives your number, and if it finds lead, reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink deals with it.
Do you test water in Warren?
Yes. Chatfield’s water test and consultation cover Warren from our Cortland office, about 15 minutes away by road. The test measures what is in your water and at what level, and any equipment it points to is quoted after the results.
