Rock at 18 Feet, Water Further Down
Three quarters of the logs that note bedrock found it within 30 feet. The Allegheny Formation is mapped under the town, a Pennsylvanian stack of sandstone, shale, limestone, clay and coal. In layered rock like that, water moves along fractures and through the more open beds, and a bore is drilled on until it crosses enough of them to supply the house.
All the same, the finished wells have the deepest median of ten Venango County towns. For a new well, footage in rock is the main unknown, and the drilling cost page explains how it is priced. Our well drilling page covers the air rotary and cable tool rigs, and PA DEP permit assistance comes with the job.
Iron and Manganese Work at the Borough Plant
The Clintonville Borough water system pumps from two active wells, Well #1 and Well #2, for about 557 people on 189 connections. Much of what EPA lists for it targets iron and manganese: permanganate, diffused aeration and greensand filtration. Chlorine and a pH adjustment for corrosion control round it out, along with 4-log treatment of viruses, a disinfection standard that kills nearly all of them. Homes on the borough’s lines get their water report from the utility.
A well outside the system sends its water to the tap as it comes out of the ground. If that water leaves orange stains or dark specks, the household answer is iron removal with a FerronX Iron System, chosen after a water test on site or through a certified lab.
