The Borough's Purchased Water
EPA lists the borough water company as a purchased surface water system. It buys filtered water from Aqua PA's Shenango Valley plant and serves 2,000 connections. The borough's own EPA listing includes coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, rapid sand filtration, powdered activated carbon, chlorination before and after treatment, and fluoridation. Homes on the line get their water report from the borough.
With chlorination on that list, some households notice the taste, and a CityLux system handles chlorine removal for the whole house. Every lead round EPA records for the system was under the action level. Those figures come from a sample of homes, though, so a home water test is the way to see what your own tap carries. It can cover hardness and other questions at the same visit.
Wide Yields Under Deep Wells
Expect a deeper well than in most of Mercer County. Within 5 miles of town, the 566 depth logs put Sharpsville 4th of 15 by median, and a quarter went to 140 feet or more. Rock tends to sit shallow, so casing, which usually runs down to rock, is often short, and much of the footage is in rock.
Flow is less predictable. With half of the 468 yield logs spread from 10 to 30 gallons a minute, a submersible pump sized from a neighbor's well can be well off for yours. The pump is chosen from your own flow test, and the pressure tank is matched to it. Residential well drilling covers a new hole, with PA DEP permit assistance.
